While you and I lead fairly comfortable lives, a crisis is occurring worldwide. Every day, nearly 30,000 children die. Every five seconds a child dies of hunger. More than 110 million school-age children are not given the opportunity to receive an education. 6,000 children die every day because of disease-infested drinking water. 150 million children in developing countries are malnourished. Millions of people throughout the world live on less than $2 per day.
Fifteen million children around the world have been orphaned due to HIV/AIDS. Thirty-eight million people in developing countries are currently infected with AIDS. Every week, AIDS claims roughly as many lives as the American fatalities in the Vietnam War. If all the children who have lost parents to AIDS held hands, they would stretch five and a half times around the United States. By 2011, this chain will reach around the world.
We have a responsibility to break this cycle. By sponsoring a World Vision Child for just $30 per month, or a World Vision Hope Child for $35 a month, you can completely change the direction of a child's life. You can help provide them with food, clean water, medical care, and an education.
Challenge yourself. Sacrifice something in your life in order to show love to children in need. Give up your daily coffee from Starbucks. Rent less movies. Buy less CD's. Instead of buying books, use the library. Invest in more than momentary pleasure. Invest in a life. Invest in a child in order to change the world.
